The Wood Duck female is a graceful waterfowl with soft brown-gray plumage, a white teardrop-shaped eye ring, and subtle speckling along her body. Native to North America, she inhabits wooded swamps, ponds, and rivers. A well-known fact is that wood ducks nest in tree cavities. Fun fact: ducklings leap from the nest shortly after hatching.
