The Purple Martin is a glossy, deep-blue-black swallow found across North America, especially in the eastern and central United States during summer. Known for their aerial insect hunting, they’re often welcomed with man-made birdhouses. Fun fact: Purple Martins rely almost entirely on human-provided housing in the eastern U.S.
