California Quail

The California Quail, a plump, ground-dwelling bird, is easily recognized by its curved black topknot and intricate plumage. Native to the western United States, especially California, it thrives in scrublands and woodlands. Known for its social nature, it often forms coveys. Fun fact: it communicates with a distinctive “Chi-ca-go” call.
